It's Almost "Boo Time"

I'm getting so excited about the "Boo Time Party" this week.  I've been busy getting every thing ready for all the little goblins to be here.  I will hopefully have some great pictures to share after all of the fun I have planned.

Sew Fun

I have had so much fun this week with several little sewing projects.

Zach wanted a new "Z" shirt.  He requested a cheetah print.  This was as close as I could get without it looking too girlie.

One of the two halloween appliqued shirts for Cade and Reid.

My first attempt at making shoes for Aubrey.

And finally, Tiffany and I made these cute headbands today.

Can't wait to make some cute things next week.  Thank you pinterest for all the ideas!

A Sweet Little Ghost

I finally got a tutorial for my new embroidery machine.  This is my first project.  Of course I saw it on Pinterest.  I searched the internet for the cute ghost applique and found it!  I can't wait to see my sweet Katie and Aubrey in these.

A Little Crafting Weekend

Our 5th daughter, Taleigh, came in town this weekend!  We did a little crafting while she was here.  We have all become big fans of Pinterest and most of the things we cook, bake, decorate or craft lately seems to be an inspiration from someone"s "board".  Here are a few pictures of the things we did this weekend.

Taleigh's new sister-in-laws have 3 sweet little girls and requested some cute halloween pants for them.  I'm not the greatest seamstress, but I thought they turned out pretty cute.  I just hope they fit :)

I wanted a new wreath for the newly painted back gate.  I love the big roll of burlap we found at Michael's.  It makes a perfect bow.

Lastly, Taleigh made these cute Christmas ornaments she had seen on Pinterest.
Styrofoam balls wrapped with muslin, linen and burlap strips.  A loop of jute pinned on with pearl head pins.  They are much cuter in person.

It was a good weekend, just not long enough.  I'm so excited about this week.  I am getting a tutorial on how to monogram and applique on my new sewing machine.  More to come!

A New Port A Cache

As many of you know, we have a son with special needs.

 T. J. is a very happy 22 year old who is non ambulatory and 100% dependent.  He has grown so tall lately that he had outgrown our old van.  He could actually turn the reading lights on with his head when we hit a bump.  OUCH!  We finally got a new handicap accessible van with an extended roof last March.  We love all the extra room it offers, but it doesn't fit in our garage.

The solution? A new port a cache!

It not only protects the van from the elements but it will also keep everyone dry while loading and unloading when it rains (Will it ever rain again?).  Personally, I think it will be a great place for a party :)

I could put up some tables and maybe even hang fabric to enclose it for more privacy.  I'm ready to start planning!!

A Little Peek

We went to our oldest daughter, Tiffany's house this week to help hang the new drapes we made.  There are a few finishing touches before I'm allowed to show the the whole room, but I just had to share how hard she and her dad worked.  They look very professional, don't you think?   (pictures taken with my phone...not the best quality)

I love her guest room! I call it her "Texas Room", she calls it "John Boy Meets Billy The Kid".
Again, these are taken with my phone :(

The rest of the house is really coming together.  I will share more when I get a real camera over there.
I hope you have a great weekend!

The Kitchen

Okay, I know I said I was going to start with weddings, but, I don't have pictures of the second one yet.  Instead I'm going to jump back to our kitchen remodel last summer.  My, what a crazy time!  We not only had the kitchen done, but also all of the bathroom countertops, sinks and cabinets.  We had moving boxes every where for at least 2 months.  I will spare you all the pictures of the nitty gritty and just show some of the before and after.  All of the cabinets were painted and glazed, the wall where the fridge was was moved back into the wet bar, the island was extended and painted, granite countertops were installed along with new sinks faucets and stovetop.  Here are some of the before shots.

Notice how the fridge sticks out from the wall.
The wet bar is behind it.  We lost the cabinets and countertop, but wait until you see what I got instead!

See how far the fridge sticks out and how little the island is
Now the AFTER
Look at all that floor space now that the fridge is flush with the wall and did you notice the additional counter space on the island!

See the new floor to ceiling cabinet! More storage space than I had before!

New stovetop, granite and backsplash...I love my granite!
We chose not to paint all the woodwork because there is so much of it all over the house.  The stained door really doesn't look that bad in person.
We had the desk and the island painted black with a little distressing to give a little contrast.  We also had the inside panels of the cabinets on those two pieces replaced with beadboard paneling.

Isn't it amazing what a little paint can do!

Where To Begin?

In the past year our 2 youngest daughters were married 8 months apart.  Needless to say I was one busy momma!  We really did have such a good time with all the planning and preparations even though both brides were living in another city at the time.  Since weddings have been on my mind lately, I thought it might be a good place to start.  Here are a few pictures of some of the decorations and centerpieces we did for the wedding in October.

The guest book table
burlap bags held the programs
rustic elegance was the theme
mason jars, wood, burlap, lace and pearls
each table was a little different
we also had a few antlers!
we also had jars of scrabble letters with a little tag that said
"leave a message for the newlyweds"
the guests really got into it!

Just a few of the things we did to make her day extra special

Here We Go

Hello fellow bloggers.  I have been wanting to have a blog for a long time but was too afraid of not living up to all the wonderful blogs out there.  In fact, I have been sitting here all afternoon trying to get the creative juices flowing just to come up with a name for it.  As long as I can remember, I have always dreamed of living on a farm.  Now I'm not sure why, because I don't know if I really want to milk a cow or feed the chickens.  All I know is that I love farmhouses and the feeling I get when I see pictures of them or pass one on a lonely country road.  I can almost hear the creaking of the old wood floors and the screen door as it opens to welcome neighbors.  I can feel the summer breeze blowing softly while sitting on the front porch swing and the taste of cold sweet tea poured from a beautiful glass pitcher.  Someday I hope to see my grandchildren running in with a bucket full of berries waiting to be made into a luscious cobbler.  I dream of a simpler time, a time for little boys to do the things little boys do, like build tree houses and fish in the creek.  A time for little girls to play with baby dolls and have tea parties on the porch.   I dream of these thing with all the modern conveniences of course:).  Maybe someday, but today I will just keep going down this road and see if He will lead us to our farmhouse.
